“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight,” says Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
“12 Who is the man who reverently fears and worships the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way that he should choose. 13 He himself shall dwell at ease, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.” –Psalm 25:12-14 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
From what the Word says, the LORD guides us when we trust Him. This is what FAITH is, and I’m working to increase mine, to walk by trusting My Father Who knows all things and is all-powerful, and Who always has my BEST interest in mind because He loves me purely–instead of letting reason or my carnal, earthly mind and experience direct my life.
So, I have a couple of quick tips from major spiritual leaders that have helped shape my life: (1) If an idea stays with you, and you experience peace, and joy, and an excited sense of “rightness,” and, of course, it’s not against the Word of God (which means we must KNOW the Word as much as possible, plus truly be born again by faith in Christ Jesus so His Spirit can affirm the direction our souls (minds, bodies, emotions) want to go!), then it’s God.
Often, God leads us to do something (He is a Gentleman and never tries to force us to do anything!) that does not make sense to our minds. If it’s good, and you can’t figure it out, there’s another clue that it’s most likely GOD leading you to do it.
There again, we must define “good” by the unchanging, infallible, eternal Word of God, the Holy Bible.
The flesh (our carnal earthly selves) want to do things that satisfy our 5 senses. The devil, of course, wants to create trouble for us and others in whatever way he can, whether subtle or not, and may have a bit of truth mixed in, but if we’re not sure about an idea we do this: (1) Ask God Who is the Spirit of Truth Who will never lead us wrong to show us about the idea: and (2) wait a few days at least, if possible, to see if it goes away.
Praying for wisdom is another excellent thing to do to distinguish among ideas and see what the source is. Also, the closer we get to God; the more time we have in His Word and worship and prayer, the more we think like Him and can know “automatically” at least in some cases whether an idea is from Him or not!
Enjoy the journey and know that, even when we miss it, HE LOVES US and THAT LOVE NEVER CHANGES! HALLELUJAH!!
